Tottori sand dunes is the greatest sand hill in Japan over 16km of east and west and 2km of north and south from Fukube-cho to Tottori in eastern Tottori.
in order that this Tottori sand dunes may receive the strong wind from the direct Sea of Japan -- the crest of a wind -- the scenery peculiar to a sand hill of a file bowl can be seen. Moreover, in a mountain of the slightly elevated sand hill called the back of the horse which is visible to the front from a sand hill entrance, there is the altitude of 47m. It seems that a lot of sand carried from Chiyogawa which is flowing through eastern Tottori, and a lot of earth and sand carried by the wave or the littoral current from the Sea of Japan side accumulate, it is carried to the way of inland by the monsoon etc. over long years, and it is thought that it became a present figure. The crest of a beautiful wind can be seen in early morning Tottori sand dunes. When seeing the crest of the minced visionary wind so that it may wave, the dreadfulness of natural power is felt. Moreover, if it stands on the hill of a sand hill, the Sea of Japan will spread out at hand, and it will be impressed also by the natural dreadfulness which carries a lot of sand from this sea.
