Haimatsu of Kikyogahara
Actual size

Haimatsu is an evergreen shrubbery of the monoecism of the department
of Haimatsu with a tree height of 20 to 200cm.
It is distributed over the mountain where the altitude of a mountain range etc.
is mainly high, or a cold district like Hokkaido, and can see here and there even in Mt. Norikura
at the beginning of the Kikyogahara circumference.
This Haimatsu is very strong also to a strong wind or snow coverage,
and is breeding well conversely in the place over which other plants cannot be distributed.
It seems that it comes to Japan from Siberia also as a basis at a glacial epoch,
and is widely distributed [ north / of the Chubu-sangaku zone / Hokkaido, north Japan, ]
over a certain mountain range etc. for many years.
It seems that the origin of the name was named from the figure which lengthens a branch
toward the lee so that the figure may crawl on the ground horizontally.
Moreover, it is a plant which offers growth environment very important
also for the ptarmigan of the special natural treasure specified by a country,
a ptarmigan is alike in order to hide itself from natural enemies, such as an eagle and a hawk,
and it uses Haimatsu.
A sight of a ptarmigan can also sometimes be caught around Kikyogahara.
